Garment sewing can be some of the most satisfying and empowering sewing you can complete. Finding a pattern and fitting it perfectly to your body, or adapting it to your sense of style, opens up huge possibilities for you. Add in that it allows you to engage in more sustainable consumer practices by avoiding purchasing sweatshop garments and you can easily see why dressmaking is a creative avenue for the modern woman.
With the core concepts of Beginning Dressmaking mastered, take your garment sewing to the next level. Using a printed sewing pattern, learn to prepare and cut your pieces; adapt the pattern to your body shape using tried-and-true sewing techniques; complete the basic garment construction; perform a dress fitting that targets trouble spots and solves them; and finish your dress beautifully. Students will work through these skills using a retro-modern dress pattern, and every technique will be useful in the future!
