Valentine’s Day Manly Gift Tutorial 2013

Remember last year, when you guys gave me suggestions for a manly Valentine’s Day gift, and I made up a tutorial for all of us (plus a round-up of other tutes around the web)?  Yeah, that was totally fun.

Who’s up for another round?  I’m looking for suggestions for a great hand-made gift for guys for Valentine’s Day.  Throw ’em out there, no matter how crazy they might sound.  Anything goes, as long as it’s manly(ish) and can be sewn–doesn’t even have to be out of fabric, if that’s how you roll.  I’ll run through the suggestions and work up a tutorial for ONE idea in the next week, and debut a free tutorial on Friday, Feb 8!  Just in time to whip up something awesome for that gift-receiving man in your life.

Woot!

I have been making fleece hats for all the men I know this year… from premature babies to retired gentlemen, everyone is getting a variation of the same fleecefun.com hat – and the great thing is they are perfect for last minute gifts as they take 15 minutes to make!

    Here are a few ideas:

    Stylish pocket square/hanky + bow tie/necktie

Masculine smartphone/tablet/eReader/laptop sleeves in fabrics like wool, felt, salvaged military canvas, and/or leather

    Messenger bag in similar fabrics

If he’s a geek, beer/coffee cozy or notebook cover made out of his favorite geek-inspired fabrics (Star Wars, etc.)

Sue, I didn’t suggest making a lacy handkerchief and a matching bra. if you haven’t swooned over a handsome man in a stylish suit and tie (with, yes, a pocket square) — you’re missing out.

To each his (or her, as the case may be) own. 🙂

Hey. How about a toiletries bag from wool. Kinda like the fabric in the bag above?

Some kind of office organizational something… (I know.. super vague!). My husband is working on a second Master’s degree and working full time… and our office (read: my sewing room) is kind of a disaster because of it. Some place where he can stash his books, papers, etc would be great, but he isn’t exactly a messenger bag type person so I have no idea of what would actually work. 🙁

How many remote controls does he have?
    A REMOTE TOTE –

Bundle them up in a remote control caddy – you are probably thinking fabric but I am thinking wood! Get them organized
in one place with velcro, nails or twine but when he asks
“where is the remote” you can tell him “On the Remote Tote”.

That is a great idea, one that could hang onto the side of a couch or a coffee table?
