You Thought I Was Joking

It begins: the updates as we make this house our home.  Prepare yourself.

Naturally, we immediately ripped the kitchen to complete shreds.  We got some allowances when we bought the house, considering the kitchen had never been updated, so we’re having actual professionals pull out the cabinets and cut massive holes in the wall.  We’ll be re-using (and painting) every cabinet in the kitchen, both to reduce costs and because I can’t stomach throwing out perfectly good cabinets that can so easily be updated (even if we did give them to the ReStore, as we will most of the light fixtures and the sink faucet, which really cannot be redeemed).

Don’t worry: there is a boat load of sewing to be done, too.  It won’t all be photos of contractors and their cronies pulling up icky linoleum tile.  But this part is kind of exciting, too.  The hole in the wall on the left will overlook the family room, and the wall at the far end (which currently has two side-by-side broom closets–wha?) will have the fridge and pantry.  Sadly, the window overlooks the garage (which used to be a carport, so it makes a little more sense), but we’ll be painting all of it a lovely shade of relaxing green to pep it up, along with yummy white trim.  See more of my fantasies and inspiration on my Pinterest, which has become sortof a joke, since I pin with wild abandon and have such a specific look in mind that I’ve been know to pin the same picture multiple times.

Think good thoughts for us!  The contractor says three weeks, but that always makes me think of my favorite Tom Hanks movie, so we’ll need all the loving thoughts we can get!
