Here’s my monthly video update following this year’s progress with my One Little Word: Margin. I don’t plan these videos, so this one’s especially stream-of-consciousness, so buckle up.

July 14, 2014 at 1:02 pmSo I totally identified with this. Not that I am even really making money of any sort with my little sewing/blogging thing but I seriously just had this same time of conversation with my husband. Balancing my need and desire to be a good mom, wife, homemaker with my second identity as part of the sewing community- which I feel is also important for me as a person and personal growth (and sanity breaks ;). You are definitely not alone and it’s encouraging to hear you voice so many things I’m working through myself.

July 20, 2014 at 12:36 pmI don’t think it was an accident I stumbled upon your June update. While I don’t have the same family situation as you (no kids at home), I found myself trying to re-adjust from a busy life (marriage, work, volunteering, LOTS of extended family events, etc,) and not doing things just because I was capable to focusing on what I really wanted to do. I am in that “letting go” phase and am evaluating the “lasting” things I want to invest and focus on. You’ve given me some more words to wrap around what’s been going on in my soul. Thanks for your courage to share where you are right now. P.S. Hope you have a fabulous vacation!

July 21, 2014 at 4:15 pmWomen have many more options and opportunities today than my generation did, and that is a good thing. However, in some ways life was easier when husbands and wives fulfilled their defined roles. I stayed home and gave my children the kind of childhood I wanted them to have. Thirty years ago one paycheck was enough, now that is not always the case.
The truth is, there are no right decisions. We need to plan for the future. We need a plan to buy a home, pay college tuitions, have enough savings for retirement. That means making choices about where do I live, where do I work, what is my lifestyle? And after a lifetime of planning and choosing, something happens that you never considered possible, like a death, an illness or winning the lottery, and the life you knew is over and you begin again. Live each day the best you can, and have no regrets. Make the best of what you have and don’t worry about what you don’t have or what didn’t happen.
I am anxiously awaiting your next update. The calendar tells us the year begins in January, and spring is for new beginnings, but I have always felt the year begins in September. Summer is the time for slowing down and resting. I bet no one has told you this before, but Labor Day is my favorite holiday. When the kids get back to school, I wouldn’t be surprised if you have a new perspective and energy.
