This weekend, when I went to work the Whipstitch booth at the Indie Craft Experience Summer Market, I planned out my day to arrive two hours before the event began, so I’d be sure to have enough time to set up and merchandise to my liking, especially since I was loading and unloading by myself. And then it only took me 30 minutes. Which left me with some downtime. Since I don’t live super far from the venue (despite nearly getting lost between home and there, twice), I ran home and grabbed these–remember these?
I got started yo-yoing while the other vendors were setting up, and get a pretty good rhythm going. So when the doors opened and folks started arriving, I just kept right at it. Even standing up and having conversations with old friends and new ones, I kept right on going. Until I ran out of the circles I’d cut ahead of time. Woot!
At which point there was nothing to be done but to go ahead and start joining them together. I had a brief moment of total crazy where I imagined I’d make all 471 yo-yos I’ve estimated I’ll need for a 60″ x 60″ quilt and then lay them out in color order, for a planned-scrappy effect. And then I came to my senses (with the help of an AMAZING lemon ricotta King of Pops popsicle–EPICALLY good) and just started sewing them edge-to-edge in random order, with white between each scrappy yo-yo to break up the busyness of it all. So far, I’m super pleased.
This will almost certainly get put away until after the move (which is scheduled for next Friday!), but I’m already getting pretty excited. And sort of pleased with myself that I got the whole quilt 20% done while standing up and talking to my friends. Woot!
