It’s finished!! My #mushroomshirtdress is up on It’s finished!! My #mushroomshirtdress is up on the Whipstitch blog. If you’ve been following along in my Stories, you know that this was a project I started SEVEN (I’ve been saying six but I did the math and it’s seven) YEARS ago, found in a box, realized was the wrong size AND didn’t have all the pieces cut out—so I squeezed a WHILE DIFFERENT SHIRT DRESS PATTERN out of the remaining yardage + previously cut pattern pieces to make this gem. I love love love it, so much. Details and more photos under the link in my profile! #simplicity8014 #imakemyownclothes
Sweet little handprints on the back of my #nautica Sweet little handprints on the back of my #nauticalstripesquilt made by my children and my sister’s children in 2010. TEN years ago on a family vacation, when we wanted to preserve how sweet and bitty they all were. This is an old pillowcase that was pressed into service so my sister and I could each have their hand prints on the back of our twinnies quilts. I packed the pieces for my own, as we so often do, into a bag for “later” as soon as hers was finished and gifted. Now the youngest of these children is finishing elementary school, and the oldest is halfway to a college degree while managing a pet store eight states away. All this to say: DON’T WAIT. These memories are tender and I treasure them, and I would have loved an extra ten years of comparing their palms to these smears of paint. #quiltersofinstagram
I finished two projects this week that have been s I finished two projects this week that have been sitting half-made in boxes or bags for either six or ten YEARS. I told my husband it felt like they’d been paroled. A saga of a shirt dress made from salvaged fabric. A massive quilt whose pieces were cut when our fifth grader was one year old. AND I LOVE THEM BOTH SO MUCH. Excuse me while I punch myself in the shoulder for a bit Breakfast Club-style, and take more photos to share. Finished objects FTW!! #mushroomshirtdress #nauticalstripesquilt
Nearly there... This quilt started over TEN YEARS Nearly there... This quilt started over TEN YEARS ago when I made one for my sister, took it to Cape Cod on a family trip, and had our children all make cousins’ handprints in fabric paint for the quilt backs. The cut squares for the half-square triangles for my companion quilt sat in a zippy bag since then, along with the yardage for the backing and the pillow case with those itty bitty handprints. Now that one of those babies is off managing a pet store and finishing her college degree, and two others are starting high school, it feels bittersweet to put in the quilting stitches and finish it up. Both a celebration of who they were and a sense of sadness that those baby years are behind us (along with not a little relief, because DUDE we were so tired). Final stitches today, binding this weekend, a joyous memory of those sweet little voices and chubby baby hands forever. #nauticalquilt #quiltingmemories

On the blog and YouTube: a video tutorial to whip On the blog and YouTube: a video tutorial to whip up a quick fleece neck warmer. Legit takes about six minutes, which makes the 8+ years I’ve been meaning to turn this tutorial into a video ironic? But also: have you ever sewn with WOOL FLEECE?? Because that stuff is INSANE luxurious—and this neck warmer only takes a 20ish x 20ish piece, so it’s the dreamiest place to indulge. (I got this one from @emmaonesock and it’s amaaaaazing). #gaiter #fleeceneckwarmer #videotutorial

Never mind that on our second outing we flew too close to the sun and both came home with mild injuries (some to our feelings)—it was a glorious day outside to breathe in the fresh air and think about how much we’re thankful for. #mountainbike #datenight
