I have just discovered your site and have saved it to my folder titled ‘Ab Fab Info’.

Hi there, I’m wondering if you can point me in the right direction of the easiest to use/most versatile children’s wear design software preferably for macs?? My aim is to one day be able to design my own range of children’s wear and I’m wondering what is the best software to learn upon? I am more comfortable with macs so this would be my preference?? Thank you for your amazing tuition and classes and books. I have learnt so much from you, Kate.

Hi, Kate! Honestly, I’ve used two different brands of software, and disliked them so much that I’d have to dig and dig to even find their names for you–this was about ten years ago, so I’m sure the technology has improved a ton, but I found both programs really heavy on my computer (made it crash ALL the time) and just didn’t easily give me the look I wanted in the finished product. I’ve had much happier results by drafting my own patterns by hand, and then digitizing them. I teach an online pattern drafting course, and I learned so much from Lauren Dahl’s Pattern Workshop class online about how to translate my patterns into digital format. She used Illustrator (so do I), which you can almost always get with an educational discount if you have children, or you can get a very similar program for free online.
Hope that helps, let me know if I can answer more questions for you! 🙂
