Bed Skirt, Duvet and Curtains. Sort Of.

The mattress for our oldest child’s hot pink four-poster bed finally arrived today!  Woot!  I had been waiting and waiting for it to get here so I could take some photos of these other projects for the Sewing for Your Home e-course: the bed skirt, the duvet, and the tab-top curtains.  Sadly, our youngest child knocked my camera to the floor yesterday and broke the lens–no more focusing it, pretty much ever.  She didn’t mean to–she’s not even two.  But it was a bummer, for sure.

Which means no Big Reveal of the Teen Room, like I’d hoped.  But!  I’ve got a new lens on order, to arrive on Monday, so we can do it then.  In the meantime, I give you: sneak previews.  These were taken with my 50mm static lens, which means I can’t zoom out or back in–I can only capture what will fit in the viewfinder.  Great for up-close shots, not so great for revealing a whole room.  But even in small doses, I gotta be honest: this room kinda rocks.  And the bed skirt?  Killing it.

As Rachel Zoe would say: Ba.na.nas.  I reeeeaaaallly love the bed frame in this electric pink, and the bed skirt (which was originally intended to be made from Kona snow, but magically transformed itself into this Anna Maria home dec print at the absolute last minute) is shutting it down.  Shutting. It. Down.  The pillows are perfection in here, and the curtains, despite not being made specifically for this room, are just the right touch of casual elegance.

Can’t wait to show it all to you on Monday.  In the meantime!  If you haven’t yet signed up for the Sewing for Your Home online class, there are just a handful of spots left!  Come on over!

This is what I’m saying!! Our beds are all SUPER high off the ground–like, 24+” or so. A bed skirt is essential, but ruffles weren’t going to fly. This bed skirt really makes the room–which is saying something, because the bed ROCKS.

It’s sweet without being TOO sweet, just right for a girl about to finish high school. And she loves it! (Whew!)

When I commented recently to my husband that I wanted a bed skirt for our bed, he was very skeptical and apparently did not know that a bed skirt does NOT have to have ruffles. This one is totally what I had in mind! I’d love to take your sewing for the home class, but first I need to take your beginners/basics class. When is that one going to happen? I just ordered your book – hopefully that will get me started!

I agree: I’m not really into ruffles for my own bed–I think our 5yo wants them very badly for hers, but she’s FIVE. I love the tailored look of this bed skirt, since it does the job (who even knows what our teen will shove under her bed??) but looks very crisp and clean.

The Essentials class will be offered again in September, right around Labor Day. It’ll be fun to have you join us! 🙂
