So, when I first got swatches of the Far Far Away fabrics, I asked y’all to come up with ideasfor a giveaway. The idea was, you think up a nifty giveaway concept, and YOU win the fabric as well as the giveaway winner! Well, today’s the day: it’s giveaway time!
I had to struggle to save some of this stuff. It flew out the door so quickly that I was only able to snag a few fat quarters–and none for myself! I’m taking the gamble that the six more bolts I have on order will be here soon, and planning to grab my own then. For you people, though, I make sacrifices. So, for EACH of our two lucky winners, FOUR FAT QUARTERS of this magnificent Japanese double gauze have been set aside. Our choice of prints, but hey, you can’t go wrong with any of this yumminess.
The first winner? She’s the suggest-er of our giveaway: kmdegroot! I know she really, really, really wanted some of this fabric, and now it’s all hers! Her suggestion of a good, old fashioned snail race really caught my attention and wouldn’t let go, so in honor of one of my favorite prints in this collection, we’re racing snails, people!
As much as I wanted to go to the store and grab a buncha snails for this event, I was a little worried they might not perform in a satisfactory manner. Ahem. Instead, I’m enlisting help from our local toddler brigade–on our street alone, we have four children between the ages of 2 1/2 and 3 and they spend a lot of time outside racing in circles on the sidewalk. I thought, Why not harness some of that energy and use it for GOOD?
Our resident toddler has donated her time to personally hand-paint four snails in red, blue, yellow, and green (I loved kmdegroot’s suggestion to have the snails in the colorways of the collection, but our poster paints don’t come in azure, plum and apricot–shouldn’t they, though??). Each of the neighbor children will hold one of these snails as they race from Point A to Point B next Thursday evening. Given the proclivities of children this age, I can’t guarantee that they’ll all even make it to the finish line, but we’ll have a staff photographer on hand just in case there’s a photo finish…
How do I win, you ask? For the next week, you’ll have the chance to leave a comment here with the color of the snail you think will win the race next Thursday: red, blue, yellow or green. You can enter in three different ways–and you’re free to comment in ALL three ways, giving you triple the chances to win:
- Leave a comment with the color snail you think will win
- For another entry, blog the contest, then come back here and include a link to your blog post in your comment, again naming the color you think will win
- For yet another entry, tweet the contest on Twitter as an @whipstitch reply, then come back and comment that you did so, again naming the color snail you think will win
After the race is finished, I’ll print out the comments section, cut it all up old-school style, and put all the selections with the winning color in a hat–if I don’t see a color on a particular comment, I’ll leave it out, so please be sure to include the color in EACH comment you leave! Our toddler will reach in and select ONE winner’s comment. The winner will be announced on Friday, April 10 before lunch!
Comments are open NOW–go, go, go people and win what may very well be some of the LAST available scraps of this fabric on the planet. Happy snail hunting!
**kmdegroot, email me directly (deborah !at whipstitchfabrics *dot* com) and we’ll figure out how to get yours to you super fast–and congrats!!

Wow, snail racing. Our backgarden used to be the place to get snails for racing when we were kids, I haven’t thought about that in years. So much fun.
My snail never used to win, I hope I have got better at snail picking over the years!
