Another finish for the Circle of Trust!

This is the herringbone block from Alisa’s Modern Block of the Month for Sew, Mama, Sew this past year, and it is spectacular.

The ladies of the Trust Circle really did it up on this one.  I asked for bold colors along with Kona white, and they more than delivered.

When the blocks came back, I didn’t want to interrupt the coolness of the design with sashing, so I butted them right up against one another–and added a 6″ border on all sides of more Kona white in order to both balance out all that color and to make the quilt slightly larger.

The backing is that fantastic square dot from Heaven and Helisinki by Patty Young.  I did splice two pieces together to make it big enough, but even I was having a hard time finding the seam earlier today–I think if I’d been more patient I would have made the seam totally invisible, but sometimes you’re just ready to see how the finished quilt is going to look, and masking the seam in the backing falls lower on the priority list!

The binding is also from Heaven & Helsinki, and I chose it almost as soon as I’d selected the backing–the colors are so perfect with these blocks the ladies sent me to put together.

This was the quilt I was working on for our Live Quilting event this past Saturday.  I opted for a squiggly curlie-cue FMQ design, rather than a meandering pattern–I thought it suited the feeling of the quilt better.  HOT pink thread, too.  Boo-yah!

I don’t love this quilting pattern for working on my own machine and found myself making a few “pretzels” here and there, but on the whole I really like the result, and think it’s just the right amount of modern-crinkly.

Our circle has been donating quilts to local foster girls, specifically girls who have been rescued from sexual slavery here in Atlanta.  I couldn’t be more proud to have been part of the making of this quilt, or of the small contribution I was able to make to do.Good Stitches and the work that has been done there over the past few years.  I love thinking of the girl who will have this quilt as her very own, handmade with real love.  Can’t wait to drop it off!
