Our snails are all painted and ready to go, so yesterday just before supper, we got the little ones together for a Heather Ross Far Far Away Giveaway Snail Race! Thanks again to kmdegroot for the fantastic suggestion–her fabric is all wrapped and ready to go out today along with our giveaway winner’s!
Our teen acquiesced to act as line judge for the event, and here models the yellow snail–she said it was painted best, but was reluctant to suggest which snail would win. Probably wise.
Here you see the Red Snail jockey selecting her mount.
Two of the neighbor toddlers were out of commission for this event, so we suckered in some of the cousins instead. Here you see the reluctant Blue Jockey, who claims she hates to race because she never wins. I bribed her with a roll down the hill together after if she’d suck it up for your sake, Dear Reader, and she did. Thank goodness!
Yellow Snail jockey is all smiles–for now.
Green Snail jockey is sure he’ll win, since he so often has beaten his sister in the past. Beware hubris, my tiny man.
Red Snail is READY TO GO. If only we could get the dogs out of the way and get everyone else in LINE!
Wait, what? Why not? C’mon, it’ll be FUN!
It WON’T be fun, you say? And you’re SURE? So sure that you want to run far, far away yourself and take your yellow snail with you? So far away that my telephoto lens can only capture you out of focus? Sorry, yellow snail voters–I’m afraid you backed the wrong snail on this one. This little jockey didn’t make it back to the starting line…
But the other three were in the blocks and ready to rumble!
SO ready, that there may have been a false start–OK, let’s line up ONE last time!
And they’re off!
They’re in the bottom of the driveway, rounding the goal, and headed into the turn…
WAY out in front..it’s…BLUE SNAIL!! The winner by three lengths!
Disappointed and confused, Green Snail realizes he has lost to his sister for the first time. And the last, he says.
Bringing up the rear, Red Snail may have burned all her energy pre-race.
This morning, we drew names from all of you who put your money on the Blue Snail, and that was a LOT of you!
Our toddler reached in to her blue bucket (appropriately enough), and pulled out a name:
Congratulations, CLAUDIA! You’re the winner of the Heather Ross Far Far Away Snail Race Giveaway!
Thanks so much to all of you who voted, and keep checking back for news on our next shipment of this fantastic fabric!

I was just thinking about you the other and though I’ve never heard the sound of your voice, I can just imagine that you are super peppy, fun, and lively. You have such fun ideas (like this) and I’m pretty sure you go 100 miles an hour most of the time.
congrats to Claudia!
