Bits & Pieces

Summer is here, and we’re still working out what that means for our daily schedule.  Yesterday, I did a smidgen of sewing, followed by four hours at the pool with the children.  I took a cross stitch project, but no actual hand sewing, and feel my time could have been better maximized.  Having said that, I’m super relaxed today.  Hmmmm…

I am visiting over on Mel’s blog today, with a podcast interview that was super, super fun to make.  It’s about an hour long, so you’ll want to grab a cup of coffee or tea and your own hand sewing project, but I think it’s really good, and she and I had such a great time recording it together.  You can also find me this summer as part of Mel’s Camp Aloha Friends!

I’ve failed (again) to get a “real” garden in the ground this year.  We’re doing strawberries on the back patio (you can see me hosing them down above), along with tomatoes, habaneros, herbs, and roses in containers.  We have such a long growing season here that we think we might still be able to get in some climbing beans (I’m hoping for a teepee like this one, for the kids) and a wall o’ sunflowers along the side fence–you can keep up with all those on the garden posts, or by subscribing to the blog via Bloglovin‘ or Feedly (garden posts don’t make it to the blog front page, but the do show up in feed readers!).

I desperately need about a dozen more easy summer dresses, like my Bianca and my Cappuccino and my racerback maxi and my Modern Babydoll–I have worn all of them nearly every day since we crossed the 80-degree threshold, and now find myself thinking each morning, “Who’s going to see me today?  And have they seen me in this dress already this week?”  There is some sewing to be done, since I am clearly committing to this being the Summer of the Dress.

I am in the search for a really great source for elastic, of all sizes–anyone have a link they can share for where to get bulk elastic for low prices?  I’ve been going through it like crazy, and am just about tired of never having the size I want on hand at 11 pm when I need it.

I never did film a One Little Word Video for April.  Did you notice that?  Yeah.  So, margin: sometimes, you don’t have it even when you really, really want to.  More on that in the MAY video later this week.

My sweet friend Melissa on Instagram sent me the greatest acorn ornament!  Our little online community is beyond awesome, y’all, and I am constantly reminded in the best ways of that.  Thanks to all of you for making each day a happy one shared with friends!

Now: off to the pool with my notepad to jot down some ideas and plan out some sewing.  Looks like in the summer, our days will be spent out-of-doors and my evenings will be spent with my machine.  Except Date Night, of course.  Nothing interferes with Date Night!

Such a fun way to spend the afternoon–thank YOU for making the time and talking with me! Here’s hoping this month’s OLW video is half as much fun. 🙂

I enjoyed your interview. It was lots of fun to listen to.

You will have to share your summer schedule. I sure could use some ideas! I would love to hear how you will be fitting in your sewing and at the same time doing stuff with your kids.

Oh, thanks so much! I really enjoyed recording it with Mel, so I hope that came through.

We’re still hammering out the daily routine over here, but I’ll keep you updated! Looks like most of my sewing will get done in the evenings, at least at the machine–if I expect to get any hand-sewing done at the pool, though, I’d best get some projects started! 🙂
